Improved Modeling of the Correlation Between Continuous-Valued Sources in LDPC-Based DSC
Accurate modeling of the correlation between the sources plays a crucial role
in the efficiency of distributed source coding (DSC) systems. This correlation
is commonly modeled in the binary domain by using a single binary symmetric
channel (BSC), both for binary and continuous-valued sources. We show that
"one" BSC cannot accurately capture the correlation between continuous-valued
sources; a more accurate model requires "multiple" BSCs, as many as the number
of bits used to represent each sample. We incorporate this new model into the
DSC system that uses low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for compression. The
standard Slepian-Wolf LDPC decoder requires a slight modification so that the
parameters of all BSCs are integrated in the log-likelihood ratios (LLRs).
Further, using an interleaver the data belonging to different bit-planes are
shuffled to introduce randomness in the binary domain. The new system has the
same complexity and delay as the standard one. Simulation results prove the
effectiveness of the proposed model and system.Comment: 5 Pages, 4 figures; presented at the Asilomar Conference on Signals,

Optimal Beamforming for Gaussian MIMO Wiretap Channels with Two Transmit Antennas
A Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output wiretap channel in which the
eavesdropper and legitimate receiver are equipped with arbitrary numbers of
antennas and the transmitter has two antennas is studied in this paper. Under
an average power constraint, the optimal input covariance to obtain the secrecy
capacity of this channel is unknown, in general. In this paper, the input
covariance matrix required to achieve the capacity is determined. It is shown
that the secrecy capacity of this channel can be achieved by linear precoding.
The optimal precoding and power allocation schemes that maximize the achievable
secrecy rate, and thus achieve the capacity, are developed subsequently. The
secrecy capacity is then compared with the achievable secrecy rate of
generalized singular value decomposition (GSVD)-based precoding, which is the
best previously proposed technique for this problem. Numerical results
demonstrate that substantial gain can be obtained in secrecy rate between the
proposed and GSVD-based precodings.Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Wireless

Wireless Powered Cooperative Relaying using NOMA with Imperfect CSI
The impact of imperfect channel state (CSI) information in an energy
harvesting (EH) cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network,
consisting of a source, two users, and an EH relay is investigated in this
paper. The relay is not equipped with a fixed power source and acts as a
wireless powered node to help signal transmission to the users. Closed-form
expressions for the outage probability of both users are derived under
imperfect CSI for two different power allocation strategies namely fixed and
dynamic power allocation. Monte Carlo simulations are used to numerically
evaluate the effect of imperfect CSI. These results confirm the theoretical
outage analysis and show that NOMA can outperform orthogonal multiple access
even with imperfect CSI.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, accepted in IEEE GLOBECOM 2018 NOMA Worksho
Impact of Beam Misalignment on Hybrid Beamforming NOMA for mmWave Communications
This paper analyzes the effect of beam misalignment on rate performance in downlink of hybrid beamforming-based non-orthogonal multiple access (HB-NOMA) systems. First an HB-NOMA framework is designed in multiuser millimeter wave (mmWave) communications. A sum-rate maximization problem is formulated for HB-NOMA, and an algorithm is introduced to design digital and analog precoders and efficient power allocation. Then, regarding perfectly aligned line-of-sight (LoS) channels, a lower bound for the achievable rate is derived. Next, when the users experience misaligned LoS or non-LoS (NLoS) channels, the impact of beam misalignment is evaluated. To this end, a misalignment factor is modeled and each misaligned effective channel is described in terms of the perfectly aligned effective channel parameters and the misalignment factor. Further, a lower bound for the achievable rate is extracted. We then derive an upper bound for the rate gap expression between the aligned and misaligned HB-NOMA systems. The analyses reveal that a large misalignment can remarkably degrade the rate. Extensive numerical simulations are conducted to verify the findings
